An All-Natural, Effective, Safe & Minimally Invasive Treatment for Hair loss and thinning for both men and women
What is PRP?
It is a component of your own blood with a higher concentration of platelets and bioactive proteins. Platelets hold an exciting talent in that they can enhance healing by releasing growth factors that are regenerative and healing and promote regrowth of the “sleepy” hair follicle. These growth factors also promote re-vascularization of the scalp by promoting blood vessel formation in areas of thinning. PRP can stimulate new hair growth, increase hair thickness and quantity and decrease hair loss.
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. PRP is nothing new but medical experts have only recently been investigating its potential role in hair regrowth. It has been used for the past 10-15 years in plastic surgery for wound healing and orthopedics for treating injuries with a minimally invasive therapy. In the case of hair loss, the injected platelets prompt inactive hair follicles to wake up by supplying the follicle with enhanced blood and nutrient supply, growth factors and bioactive proteins.
Walk me through the procedure:
Expect for the appointment to take about an hour in its entirety. A medical practitioner will start by numbing your scalp with a topical anesthetic which will remain on your scalp for 30-40 minutes. This will allow the cream to penetrate approximately 1-1.25mm during this time which will numb the appropriate depth for the needle insertion. Next, we will draw approximately 60 cc of blood from a vein in your arm. We will then take your blood and spin it in a specialized centrifuge for PRP to separate the plasma from the red and white cells and then we will separate the plasma and spin again in the centrifuge to separate the plasma even more into platelet rich and platelet poor plasma. We will then extract this platelet rich plasma and inject this into your scalp with a very small 30 gauge needle. There will be multiple injections done in a grid-like fashion and we will use the entirety of your PRP in the areas of thinning. Then you are all finished!
How Many Treatments are Required:
The number of treatments required are based on the patients initial response to the first therapy. In addition, the number of treatments offered is based on the platelet concentration obtained during the centrifuge process. In our center we use the Emcyte centrifuge. (***insert more info on this specific device). We expect most patients would need 3-4 treatments per year
