Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Do you often times let your emotions dictate how you feel or let them get the best of you? Do you allow your thoughts to work for you or against you?
These are questions that we rarely ask ourselves, yet the answers play a larger role in our bodies ability to thrive and heal than we realize.
It’s nothing new, however becoming more recognized that the power of thought plays a large role in your bodies ability to heal, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally, too. Albert Einstein once declared that everything is energy! That means, in turn, that our emotions are energy, capable of revealing change, both beneficial and harmful, within our body. If we lose control of our emotional selves, our thoughts and emotions will move on their own…and rarely do they move to benefit our health. Unresolved emotions can harvest real, measurable, physiological symptoms.
The most common symptom is stress, which when left alone manifests into chronic disease and illness. Emotions such as anxiety, jealousy, and depression have all been documented to have negative physiological effects (both neurological and hormonal). These effects are a result of you literally “experiencing” the emotion. Your brain perceives these negative thoughts as a real experience, as a fear, and creates a new visible neuroconnection or neural pathway. These pathways are capable of being seen via fMRI.
Here’s another difficult question: If emotions alter the function of the body, how do we experience healing by addressing subconscious negative emotional patterns? A possible answer, which has been proven time and time again is that of the placebo effect. Yes, the placebo effect is a real, scientifically supported entity which proves that healing is not something that takes place outside of the body, but is rather an expression from the inside.
